Rhapis excelsa Multitrunk - Lady Palm - Bamboo palm
Bamboo palms are very elegant, graceful, multi-stemmed palms that grow to about 3-4 metres tall. These beauties have deep-green, glossy leaves. The stems can be covered with brown fibres. This palm is often called the Bamboo palm because of the coarse, fibrous material covering the stems.
Rhapis excelsa is easy to grow and adapts to a wide range of conditions and soil types. It prefers neutral to slightly acidic, well-draining soil and benefits greatly from regular applications of compost / organic material / organic fertiliser. The plant grows best in partial to full shade, on the veranda, under trees or in a shady, sheltered spot in the garden.
Rhapis excelsa can be grown in full sun, but the leaves will yellow and can scorch easily. Plenty of water must be given if this palm is to grow in full sun.
