The appearance of a yucca

The yucca, also known as the palm lily, originates from the southeastern United States. This striking plant can grow quite large and is a real eye-catcher. Between July and September, the yucca blooms with tulip-like flowers in shades of yellow and white. The stiff, sword-shaped leaves remain green all year round. This desert plant grows slowly but requires little care. Thanks to its resilience, the yucca is suitable as both a houseplant and a garden plant.

Types of yucca

We offer various yucca species in our assortment, including:

  • Yucca rostrata: a robust and winter-hardy yucca with an impressive trunk

  • Yucca gloriosa: an exotic variety with green or yellow-green leaves that blooms with white flowers in July and August

  • Yucca filamentosa: long, narrow leaves growing sideways and producing white flowers in summer

  • Yucca elata: also called “soap tree,” with pointed leaves and white filaments, a rare but special plant

  • Yucca baccata: the so-called banana yucca, with bluish-green leaves and banana-shaped fruits

In addition to these varieties, MyPalmShop offers many more unique yuccas. View the full range on our product page.

Caring for your yucca

The yucca is extremely low-maintenance thanks to its ability to store water in its trunk. It needs little water, especially in winter when it can go up to six weeks without it. During hot summer days, it benefits from extra hydration. Provide small amounts of water when the soil feels dry. Misting is unnecessary, as the plant tolerates dry air very well. For healthy leaves, ensure it receives at least five hours of sunlight daily.

Yucca winter hardiness

Thanks to its winter-hardy nature, the yucca is ideal for garden enthusiasts looking for an evergreen plant that can withstand both cold and dry conditions. Most varieties retain their graceful leaves year-round, giving your garden or interior a touch of green even in the colder months.
