Ferocactus stainesii - ECHINOCACTUS
KamerplantFerocactus stainesii is an imposing cactus that eventually grows into a robust clump of chunky columns. Each can reach 3m (9 feet) in height and 50cm (20") in width, with 12–20 ribs, and a mature plant can consist of a dozen columns. Each rib is studded along its length by clusters of sharp, curved bright pink-red spines, giving the plant a pinky haze when viewed at a distance. In summer, older plants will produce a ring of burnt-orange flowers around the top. This is an easy care pot plant for the summer patio or nestled in between hardy plants in the arid garden, needing just a dry frost-free winter rest. Cultivation: Slow growing to start, but does well under cultivation. Use very well draining soil, water during the estival growth cycle (this plant needs plenty of water) But avoid wetting these plants while they are in sunlight.
