This colourful shrub with beautiful violet-blue flowers is a nice addition to your garden or balcony. The flowers go well together with the orange-yellow berries. Older branches of the shrub can even grow some thorns, though the thorns are always absent on younger shrubs.
Though mostly a shrub, there are rare cases of the Duranta occurring as a small tree. It can often be encountered as a creeper. It is important to give Duranta a sheltered location, preferably with as much sun as possible. Keep Duranta frost-free.
Be careful with the berries, as they are toxic to humans and many pets, including dogs, cats and pigs. Songbirds are immune to the toxin, and love eating the berry.
