Sambucus nigra 'Black Tower' is a thick shrub with green leaves that turn deep purple later in the year. The special property of this plant is its tower-like shape. A great plant that can grow up to sizes of 3-4 meters (9-12 feet). And if that's too high, as it can be pruned down easily.
The plant is very hardy in winter. It is native to colder European areas including Scotland, the Baltics and Scandinavia, as well as warmer areas like Turkey, North Africa and Italy. This plant is a real survivor and thrives in nearly any climate. It prefers sun but does well in shadow too. Furthermore, this plant is known to even thrive in extremely chalky areas.
