Japanese Stokes is a dense, slow-growing, broadleaf evergreen shrub native to northeast Asia. The male cultivar 'Stokes' is widely grown for its dwarf congested habit and its superior cold-hardiness. The tiny lustrous dark green leaves resemble those of boxwood. The small white spring flowers are not ornamentally significant. Per metre 6-8 plants or 8-12 plants per m2.
