Dicksonia antarctica

Dicksonia antarctica

The most famous tree fern

Dicksonia antarctica originates from Australia / Tasmania and is characterized by the massive red-brown to dark brown trunk that can attain a height of up to 5 metres (15 feet)! In optimal conditions the leaves can grow up to 4 meters (12 feet) in length but in our climate they only grow about half as long.

This tree fern can tolerate sun well, provided the growth point and trunk are kept moist. It grows best in partial shade where a lot of moisture is present.

Tolerates sun and some cold

The Dicksonia Antarctica wil tolerate about -10°C for a short while but you're advised to protect the trunk and the growth point from around -5°C. This tree fern is available in different sizes.

On the page 'caring for your palm trees'  you can find additional information about winter protection for your tree fern.
