This dwarf palm is a very pretty, small, clustering, very tropical-looking palm from moist forests in Taiwan and the Ryukyu Islands (south of Japan) with long, narrow leaflets that have silver backs. It produces very attractive, cherry-sized red berries for a short period.
A wonderful palm for the sheltered garden in temperate climates, it will tolerate quite deep shade and, once established, several degrees of frost.
