PALM DIARY MARCH
As soon as you feel that winter is on the wane, go out and remove that winter packaging from your sensitive plants, let them 'breathe'. Strangely enough, this is the time of year that most palms get damaged; try to avoid them experiencing too great a varation in temperature between day and night. From mid to the end of March you can start administering slow-release fertiliser.

We've put our whole stock on offer - 10% reduction on everything! We want to make some room in our greenhouses for the exciting new stock in spring. So go to our shop and grab yourself a few plants while stocks last!

Trachycarpus wagnerianus : The winter palm
The winter palm - Trachycarpus wagnerianus

Trachycarpus wagnerianus

Trachycarpus wagnerianus, (the winter palm), the new cold-hardy sensation from the Himalayas is becoming a modern design-statement. It's popularity is transcending traditional gardening circles as design-concious Europeans are choosing it to complement traditional or modern planting in front or back garden, drive-way, office or municipal setting. This plant is extraordinarily resilient and grows to a beautiful and graceful plant. We have extended our collection of these beautiful plants - see our shop for details!

The Palm passport

Red Palm Weevil  Since the Red Palm Weevil became a serious problem some years ago in Spain after accidental import from Asia and Egypt all palm sellers are required to issue a palm passport for palms with trunks wider than 5 cm and for the species mentioned on the RPW (red palm weevil ) list. We issue this passport automatically for free for all plants which fall in this category.

Classification:
Order: Coleoptera
Family: Curculionidae
Scienctific name: Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (Olivier)
Common name: Red Palm Weevil and/or Asian Palm Weevil and Indian palm weevil.
There are other species of this genus as follows:
Rhynchophorus bilineatus, Rhynchophorus cruentatus, Rhynchophorus palmarum, Rhynchophorus papuanus, Rhynchophorus phoenicis, Rhynchophorus schach, Rhynchophorus vulneratus.

Raphidophyllum hystrix

We call the Trachycarpus wagnerianus the Winter palm, but little beauty should be called the Ice palm! It's pretty well the hardiest palm we know and will survice temperatures below -20 celcius! As such it is, along with the wagnerianus, ideal for Northern Europe. On offer this month .. see our shop for details!
